Inclement Weather Policy

As we start a new academic year, we must be cognizant of the potential for inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions. Our primary concern is always for your safety, especially when we consider that a number of you are traveling considerable distances to get to class. If threatening weather is forecast, please check the following before leaving home to come to class.

  1. Check your VT email. Your instructor or the VT Hampton Roads Center staff will attempt to send an email no later than 3:00 p.m. notifying you if classes are cancelled.
  2. If there is no notice regarding class posted that means class is going to be conducted on the regular schedule.
  3. If you are unable to access your email, you may call the Center at 757-363-3930, to speak to Charlotte Anders, Stacy Harvey or Mike Smead. If you are unable to reach anyone on the main office number, call Charlotte's mobile phone at 757-434-5542.
  4. You also need to be cognizant of the weather conditions in Blacksburg and/or other parts of the state. Please remember that many classes originate in Blacksburg, Richmond, Roanoke, or Northern Virginia or in some cases we have faculty traveling from those locations. If the faculty member cannot get to campus to broadcast the class or if the faculty member cannot get here, we will have to cancel those individual classes even if the weather is not a problem here. Again, check your Virginia Tech email or call the Center if you have questions.
